Introduction to Kassow Collaborative Robot Arms

The KR Series consists of 5 collaborative robots (cobots). These cobots have payload options of 5 kg, 10 kg, and 18 kg; and their reach ranges from 850 mm to 1800 mm. Thus, they are suitable for a wide range of applications such as pick-and-place, assembly, and packaging; and can be deployed in all sorts of industries such as electronics, food & beverage, automotive, and aviation. These cobots offer exceptional capabilities, combining enhanced precision, increased reach, improved payload capacity, and advanced safety features.

Applications and Use Cases of Kassow KR Cobots

The versatility of these cobots makes them useful for a wide range of industrial tasks, from performing delicate tasks with precision to handling heavy objects. With their dexterity and 7 degrees of freedom (DoF), they can access hard-to-reach areas; thus, expanding the possibilities for automation in industries such as manufacturing and logistics.

Other applications where these cobots can be useful include assembly, packaging, palletizing, quality control, CNC machining, dispensing, and more. These applications are not only present in manufacturing but also in other areas such as healthcare and retail.

What Makes KR Series Cobots Special

These cobots have several special features, some of which are listed below.

  • Firstly, they have the 7th axis which equips the robots with greater maneuverability and ability to reach more areas with ease (e.g., around the corners).
  • They are not only lightweight but also feature an impressive blend of power, speed, reach, and payload capacity.
  • They have a small footprint/base. This is particularly helpful in cases where the size of the workspace is limited or deployment in confined spaces is needed.
  • The user interface is intuitive and simple, yet powerful with a modern tablet.

Other Features and Benefits

Not only do these cobots have the desired precision and accuracy but they also have the increased reach and dexterity that enables them to reach areas that traditional robots may struggle to reach.

These cobots are also equipped with advanced safety features such as sensor-based overload detection, making them safe in shared workspaces without the need for complex safety measures. Furthermore, Kassow Robots are designed with modularity in mind to allow easy integration of grippers, vision systems, and various other extensions.

Brief History

In 2015, Kristian Kassow (founder) had an ambitious vision - to design and develop 7-axis collaborative robots that are lightweight and fast but also have the payload and reach capacities needed for industrial use. The aim was to target small and medium size businesses. The vision started with two private investors in a small basement office in Copenhagen (Denmark).

The company officially launched in 2018, showcasing three cobots for the first time at the Automatica fair in Germany. These models were well-received and were officially launched in 2019. The other two cobots (in KR Series) were introduced in 2020. Throughout its journey, Kassow Robots established many partnerships and continues to expand and grow in business and innovation.

Comment by addoobot - Our Perspective

We find these cobots to have the right balance between reach, payload, and speed/power. They also appear to be ideal for reaching behind the corners and those hard-to-reach areas, thanks to their 7th axis.
