The CR-1 arm is a human looking Series Elastic Actuated robot arm with 4 DOF arranged with three at the shoulder and one at the elbow to give the same range of movement as the human arm.

Each Series Elastic Actuated joint contains a physical spring in series with the gear motor output to produce a smoother style of movement and higher dynamic performance than a standard robot arm of comparable power.

Combined with an advanced learning system like Nvidia ISAAC the arm is capable of completing manual tasks in a more like human manner and in close working proximity with people.

Local computation is provided by a Jetson TX1/2 or Xavier for AI at the edge experiments, all low level communications are handled automatically with a user interface provided in ROS and ready-made models for Gazebo or other physics based simulators.

The arm has an internal structure manufactured from machined and laser cut aluminium, stock extrusions and 3d printed parts allowing easy modification of the major dimensions with a 3d printed out casing that can be readily customised to accommodate changes in size or application.

The arm can be powered by a choice of precision maxonmotors to give lower cost or higher power options.

A choice of end effectors is available from parallel grippers to simple or dexterous hands with three or five digits.
