Applications: Service, Assistance and Education
The RobotEra Q5 is primarily designed for service environments where robots need to move around, interact with people, and perform basic object-handling tasks. Its wheeled mobility and humanoid upper body make it particularly interesting for customer-facing applications.
In shopping malls, hotels and commercial spaces, the Q5 can be used for reception, visitor guidance and customer assistance. Its voice interaction capabilities allow it to answer questions and communicate with visitors, while its articulated arms enable gestures and physical interactions.
RobotEra also highlights tourism interpretation, home services, healthcare-related assistance and education as potential applications. For example, the Q5's combination of movement, communication and dexterous hands could support delivering small items or demonstrating robotic manipulation.
Beyond commercial services, the Q5 offers a platform for universities, research institutions and developers studying humanoid manipulation, embodied artificial intelligence and human-robot interaction.
These applications represent the robot's intended uses and manufacturer-promoted capabilities. Actual performance in a commercial environment would depend on the deployment, software configuration and task requirements.
What Makes the Q5 Special
One of the RobotEra Q5's most distinctive characteristics is its combination of a human-like upper body with a compact wheeled base. Unlike traditional bipedal humanoids, the Q5 does not need to balance and walk on two feet to move around an environment.
Its 44 degrees of freedom allow it to perform expressive movements, including turning its head, rotating its waist, moving its arms and bending its lower body. This flexibility helps the robot interact with objects at different heights, from picking up items near the ground to reaching upwards.
The Q5 also features two 7-DoF robotic arms and XHAND Lite dexterous hands with 11 degrees of freedom each. Together with its published 10 kg combined dual-arm payload, these components support a variety of handling and manipulation tasks.
Another important feature is its slim-waist design, which gives the robot a more human-like appearance. Combined with voice interaction and articulated gestures, this makes the Q5 particularly suited to exploring customer-facing service robotics.
Navigation, AI and Remote Operation
The RobotEra Q5 combines autonomous navigation with intelligent interaction and remote-control capabilities. Its 3D LiDAR and binocular vision support perception of the surrounding environment, allowing the robot to plan routes and avoid obstacles while moving on its wheeled base.
For human interaction, RobotEra integrates voice dialogue capabilities, visual indicators and its embodied AI technologies. These features are intended to help the robot understand commands, communicate with people and support service-related tasks.
The Q5 also supports full-body teleoperation using compatible VR devices and data gloves. This allows an operator to remotely control the robot's movements, providing a useful tool for demonstrations and robotics research.
Through RobotEra's EraAI platform, teleoperation data can be collected and processed for AI model training, simulation and real-world testing.
While the Q5 supports autonomous navigation and AI-driven capabilities, this does not mean every manipulation or service task can be completed independently. Its level of autonomy depends on the particular application and software implementation.
RobotEra Q5 vs Other RobotEra Humanoids
The RobotEra Q5 differs from the company's L7, M7 and STAR1 mainly in its mobility and intended applications. The Q5 is a 165 cm wheeled humanoid with 44 degrees of freedom, designed primarily for service applications, human interaction and manipulation. Unlike the Q5, the RobotEra L7 is a full-size bipedal humanoid capable of walking, running and jumping. The L7 has 55 degrees of freedom and a published combined dual-arm payload of 20 kg, compared with the Q5's 10 kg. While the L7 focuses on combining dynamic full-body movement with advanced manipulation, the Q5 places greater emphasis on wheeled mobility, service tasks and interaction with people.
The RobotEra M7 is an upper-body humanoid platform with 43 degrees of freedom, including its dexterous hands. Unlike the Q5, it does not include a complete mobile humanoid body and is primarily intended for stationary manipulation and research applications. The RobotEra STAR1, introduced in 2024, is an earlier full-size bipedal humanoid with 55 degrees of freedom, developed to demonstrate advanced mobility and dynamic performance. Overall, the Q5 stands out within RobotEra's humanoid lineup as a service-oriented wheeled platform that combines practical indoor mobility, human-like interaction and dexterous manipulation.
