A Full-Body Humanoid Platform

The Galileo GH1 follows the increasingly common full-body humanoid design: two legs for movement through human-oriented environments, two articulated arms for interaction and potential manipulation, and a movable waist and head. At 1.55 metres tall and 45 kg, it is reasonably close to human scale while remaining lighter than many larger humanoid platforms.

Its 31 degrees of freedom are one of its most important characteristics. Each arm provides seven degrees of freedom, each leg six, the waist three and the head another two. This gives the GH1 considerably more flexibility than a robot designed simply to walk from one location to another.

Galileo also specifies movement at up to 4 m/s and highlights the robot's dynamic balance and mobility. Combined with the company's self-developed high-torque-density joint motors, the GH1 appears to be designed as a mobile embodied-robotics platform rather than a stationary humanoid display system.

Perception, Computing & Manipulation

Movement is only one part of the GH1. Galileo equips the robot with a high-precision depth camera for environmental perception and an onboard edge computing unit for local processing. This combination gives the platform the basic hardware needed to perceive its surroundings while carrying out movement and interaction tasks without relying entirely on an external computer.

The robot is powered by a 444 Wh battery, with approximately two hours listed for charging. Autonomous charging is available as an option, although Galileo does not currently publish a detailed operating-runtime figure.

Manipulation capability can also be expanded through optional dexterous hands. That is an important feature for a humanoid because the value of a human-shaped robot comes not only from walking, but from eventually being able to interact with tools, objects and environments designed around human bodies and hands.
