Held since 1992, the IEEE Haptics Symposium is a vibrant interdisciplinary forum of research in neuroscience, perception, engineering, and design, focused on sharing new advances in our understanding of the sense of touch, sparking new collaborations, and envisioning a future in which physical interactions are enriched through haptic technologies.
Sponsored by the IEEE Robotics & Automation Society and the IEEE Technical Committee on Haptics, the Haptics Symposium is the central venue for reporting research results and demonstrating novel capabilities in the field. In 2024, this four-day conference will be held in Long Beach, CA and will showcase an array of exciting contributions.
TYPES OF CONTRIBUTIONS:
- IEEE Transactions on Haptics (ToH) Short Papers (deadline passed)
- Conference Technical Papers (6 pages): Accepted papers will be presented orally at the conference and published in IEEE Xplore.
- Papers must be submitted by the October 23th, 2023 deadline (deadline extended); further information is available at https://2024.hapticssymposium.org/presenting/technical-papers/
- Cross-Cutting Challenges: These sessions will gather the community together around emerging grand challenges that require interdisciplinary research. Based on an open solicitation, two themes will feature keynote talks and interactive discussions delivered by experts from academia and industry.
- Proposals must be submitted by the October 25, 2023 deadline (deadline extended); further information is available at https://2024.hapticssymposium.org/presenting/cross-cutting-challenges/
- Works-in-Progress Papers (2 pages): Highlighting late-breaking results and presented as posters, accepted WIP papers will be published only in electronic proceedings distributed to attendees. Authors retain copyright for future publication of extended work.
- Hands-on Demonstrations (1 booth): Interactive research demonstrations are highly valued at the IEEE Haptics Symposium. Presentation entails a brief proposal that will be reviewed to ensure relevance and novelty.
- Exhibits (1 or 2 booths for a fee): Companies are invited to engage with our community by displaying products and services that relate to the field of haptics.

LOCATION:
The conference will be held in sunny Southern California at the Hotel Maya in Long Beach. The venue offers oceanfront views, a man-made beach, and a resort-style atmosphere. A short distance south of Los Angeles, Long Beach is known for its waterfront attractions, aquarium, pedestrian-friendly downtown, and large port. One week after the end of the conference, the city will host the Grand Prix of Long Beach. Many attractions and tourist destinations throughout Southern California, including theme parks and outdoor recreation, are easy to reach from the conference venue. Long Beach itself can be easily accessed via multiple airports, including the Long Beach Airport (LGB), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), John Wayne Airport (SNA), Ontario International Airport (ONT), and Bob Hope Airport (BUR).
SPONSORSHIP:
In addition to presenting an exhibit, vendors and corporations are encouraged to help sponsor the 2024 IEEE Haptics Symposium to support the haptics community and maintain visibility within it. For more information, please contact sponsorship@hapticssymposium.org
