Latest Updates and News

Important Updates:

  1. Extended submission deadline: upon requests, the submission deadline has been extended to Wednesday, 15 November, 2023.
  2. Special Issue opportunity: selected papers accepted at ICHMS 2024 will have the privileged opportunity to submit an extended version to a dedicated Special Issue of the esteemed IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems (THMS). This is a significant venue to showcase your research to a broader audience.
  3. Online presentations: ICHMS 2024 will be a physical-first event, meaning that we assume that attendees will be coming to the conference venue if possible. Yet, we are planning to offer an option for remote participation with the authors’ request and conference’s approval first (send your request to General Chairs Dr. Ming Hou at ming.hou001@gmail.com and Professor Tiago Falk at tiago.falk@gmail.com). This will provide an opportunity for authors and participants who cannot travel to still submit and partake in the event. Detailed requirements for online presentation will be provided around March 1st, 2024.
  4. Accepted special sessions: Currently, there are 5 accepted Special Sessions on different topics, prospective authors may look into them when you submit manuscripts accordingly in EasyChair if suitable. Meanwhile, you can still submit Special Session proposals.
  5. Awards: there will be the Best Student and Best Paper Awards. PhD students need to submit your manuscripts under PhD Track in EasyChair during your submission.

Event Description and Details

The 4th IEEE International Conference on Human-Machine Systems (ICHMS) will be held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on 15-17 May, 2024 as an in-person event, allowing for physical attendance. Pre-recorded video presentations can be arranged should travel and health considerations prevent in-person author attendance. An associated IEEE International Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) Symposium will also be held jointly on 15 May 2024 with the theme “Best of Both Worlds: Human-AI Teaming for Effective Decision-Making”.

The theme of the 4th ICHMS is “Trustworthy Human-Autonomy Teaming”. The conference will specifically cover progress and contributions on brain-inspired autonomous systems at multiple scales, including cognitive science, engineering, and design for safe and trusted human-autonomy teaming; technological aids for verifiable artificial intelligence (AI) decisions; trust modeling, measures, and management, and fundamental issues of trust and barriers to adoption of AI-enabled autonomy in complex socio-technical systems. The organization of ICHMS will include Regular Sessions, Special Sessions and sessions focused on PhD student research. Accepted papers will be submitted for inclusion into IEEE Xplore subject to meeting IEEE Xplore’s scope and quality requirements.
