What we find to be the top qualities of the Huayan Robotics Elfin Series Cobots:

  • Wide Model Selection: Seven models provide different combinations of payload, reach, speed and robot weight.
  • Distinctive Dual-Joint Design: Each motion module incorporates two joints, creating a recognisable arm structure and flexible kinematics.
  • Good Positional Repeatability: The smaller models offer repeatability of ±0.02 mm, while the larger models are rated at ±0.03 or ±0.05 mm.
  • Fast Lightweight Models: The E05 and E05-L can reach maximum tool speeds of up to 3 m/s under the manufacturer’s specified payload conditions.
  • Long-Reach Option: The E12 extends the working reach to 1,800 mm while retaining a 12 kg payload.
  • Modular Construction: Huayan integrates its reducer, motor, encoder, drive and software within self-developed joint modules.
  • Flexible Installation: The arms can be configured for upright, wall-mounted, suspended, inverted or angled installations.
  • Accessible Programming: Graphical programming, remote interfaces and optional teach-pendant configurations support different integration approaches.
  • Broad Industrial Connectivity: Standard TCP/IP and Modbus TCP are accompanied by optional PROFINET and EtherNet/IP support.
  • Higher Protection Available: The standard Elfin arm is listed at IP54, with IP66 available where greater resistance to dust and water is required.

Flexible Automation Across Different Workcells

The Elfin Series covers a wide range of cobot model. At the compact end, the E03 combines a 4 kg payload with a 590 mm reach and an 18 kg robot weight. This makes it easier to integrate into smaller workstations, laboratories, inspection systems and service-robot installations.

The mid-range E05, E05-L, E10 and E10-L models provide different trade-offs between reach and payload. A company can select a shorter arm with greater payload capacity or choose an extended-reach version for accessing machines and work areas from farther away.

At the upper end, the E12 provides the series’ longest reach at 1,800 mm, while the E15 delivers the highest payload at 18 kg. These models are more appropriate for larger components, extended machine-tending cells, welding systems, automotive assembly and heavier handling operations.

Huayan also offers a standard controller and an optional mini control box. The smaller controller can help integrators incorporate an Elfin arm into mobile robots, AGVs or compact automation equipment.

What Makes the Elfin Series Different?

The most visually distinctive part of the Elfin Series is its dual-joint module architecture. Instead of following the same external arm layout used by many other six-axis cobots, Huayan places two joints within each main motion module. According to the manufacturer, this creates a different kinematic structure, improves flexibility and helps reduce problematic singularities during robot movement.

The modules integrate Huayan-developed reducers, motors, encoders, drives and software. This modular approach supports a common design language across robots ranging from the compact E03 to the longer and heavier E12 and E15.

The smaller models also provide relatively high movement speeds. The E05 and E05-L are rated for tool speeds up to 3 m/s, while repeatability ranges from ±0.02 mm on the smaller robots to ±0.05 mm on the largest models.

Programming is performed through a graphical interface or remote call interface, with TCP/IP and Modbus TCP provided as standard communication options. This combination makes the series suitable for conventional robot cells as well as customised automation systems developed by integrators.

Elfin vs Other Huayan Robotics Cobot Series

Elfin Series – General-Purpose Range
The standard Elfin is Huayan’s broad, general-purpose cobot family. It offers the widest balance of compact models, long-reach options and payloads up to 18 kg without making specialised force control, vision or explosion protection the central feature.

Elfin-Pro – More Integrated Sensing and Protection
Elfin-Pro uses essentially the same model sizes, payloads and reaches but adds options such as integrated end-of-arm force control, AI vision, internal wiring and IP66 arm protection. It is better suited to force-sensitive assembly, polishing, intelligent picking and vision-guided applications.

Elfin-Ex – Hazardous-Environment Version
Elfin-Ex is designed for explosive gas and dust environments. It adds a positive-pressure explosion-protection structure, pressure monitoring, specialised controllers and explosion-proof certification. Its intended applications include petrochemical work, spraying, powder coating and other hazardous processes.

S Heavy Payload Series – Larger and Heavier Work
The S Series moves beyond the Elfin’s 18 kg maximum payload. Current S models cover payloads from 20 to 60 kg and are aimed mainly at palletising, heavy material handling, machine loading and large-component assembly.

In practical terms, the standard Elfin is the most balanced choice for everyday collaborative automation. Elfin-Pro is the more sensor-integrated option, Elfin-Ex is the specialised hazardous-environment option, and the S Series is intended for substantially heavier loads.
