Top 5+ Qualities (by addoobot)

What we find to be the top qualities of the Agile Robots Thor Series cobots:

  • Wide Model Range: Payload options from 3 to 20 kg make it easier to select a robot that matches the task without unnecessarily oversizing the system.
  • Compact Industrial Design: The robots are designed to provide useful reach and performance while fitting into relatively constrained production environments.
  • Fast Operation: Depending on the model, maximum TCP speeds range from 1.8 to 3.7 m/s, supporting high-tempo industrial processes.
  • Strong Repeatability: The smaller Thor models achieve repeatability of ±0.03 mm, while the larger models balance higher payload and reach with repeatability of up to ±0.1 mm.
  • Simple Programming: Graphical programming allows many tasks to be configured without advanced coding, while script programming and an open API support more advanced integrations.
  • Scalable Platform: A standardised interface across the family makes it easier for integrators and operators to move between different Thor models.
  • Collision Detection: The Thor Series uses collision-detection functions to support safer interaction with people, equipment and the surrounding workspace.
  • Force-Controlled Option: Thor 7 Pro adds joint torque sensing, hand-guided teaching and precise force control for contact-based applications.

One Robot Family for Different Workloads

The main strength of the Thor Series is that it covers several payload and reach classes through a shared platform. Thor 3 handles small components and precise light assembly, while Thor 7 offers more capacity without moving into a large, heavy robot. Thor 12 extends the working radius to 1,300 mm and increases the payload to 12 kg, making it better suited to machine tending and heavier handling. At the top of the announced range, Thor 20 provides a 20 kg payload and 1,700 mm reach for tasks such as palletizing and loading machinery.

Because the robots share a standardized programming approach, companies can select a model that matches each workstation while retaining a more consistent user experience. This can be useful when an automation project includes several stations with very different reach and payload requirements.

Applications

Agile Robots positions the Thor Series for assembly, quality inspection, dispensing, machine tending and material handling across industries such as automotive, electronics, manufacturing, machining, medical products, cosmetics and plastics.

Thor 3 is aimed at compact workstations and precise light assembly, while Thor 7 provides additional capacity for general assembly, automated production cells and loading or unloading operations.

Thor 7 Pro is the specialised force-controlled model. Its joint torque sensors, hand-guided teaching and 0.5 N relative force accuracy make it better suited to processes where the robot must maintain or detect contact force, such as polishing, insertion and force-sensitive assembly.

For larger components, Thor 12 combines a 12 kg payload with a 1,300 mm reach and is positioned for heavier assembly, machine tending and material handling. Thor 20 extends the family to 20 kg and 1,700 mm for loading, unloading, handling and palletising applications. The wider series is also promoted for quality inspection and dispensing.

Thor Series Compared with Other Agile Robots Cobots

Thor Series:
Six axes | 3–20 kg payload | 600–1,700 mm reach
Best suited for: Buyers who want a scalable selection of robot sizes for conventional industrial automation, ranging from compact assembly to heavier handling and palletising. Thor 7 Pro is the dedicated force-controlled model within the family.

Yu 5 Industrial:
Six axes | 5 kg payload at 1,000 mm or 7 kg at 850 mm | Integrated intelligent camera and NPU
Best suited for: Vision-guided applications such as object recognition, flexible picking, quality inspection and manipulation where integrated perception is especially valuable. It also has torque sensors in all six axes and 0.5 N force-control accuracy.

Diana 7:
Seven axes | 7 kg payload | 923 mm reach | ±0.05 mm repeatability
Best suited for: Highly dexterous and force-sensitive applications requiring obstacle avoidance, complex arm postures or smooth movement in restricted spaces. Torque sensors are integrated into all seven axes, with force-control accuracy of 0.5 N.
