Top 5+ Qualities (by addoobot)

What we find to be the top qualities of the UFACTORY 850 Cobot:

  • Longer Working Reach: Its 850 mm reach extends 150 mm farther than UFACTORY’s current xArm models.
  • High Repeatability: The manufacturer specifies ±0.02 mm repeatability, compared with ±0.1 mm for the xArm 5, 6 and 7.
  • Useful Industrial Payload: A 5 kg maximum payload supports tools and workpieces for light industrial automation.
  • Integrated Gigabit Ethernet: An internal CAT5E connection carries Ethernet from the robot base to the tool end, simplifying the installation of compatible vision devices.
  • AC or DC Deployment: Separate controller options support ordinary 100–240 V AC installations or 48–72 V DC mobile-platform systems.
  • Accessible and Advanced Programming: Users can begin with browser-based Blockly programming and move to Python, C++, ROS or ROS 2 for more customised systems.
  • Flexible Installation: The arm can be mounted in any direction when the corresponding mounting orientation is correctly configured.
  • Collision Detection and Safety Interfaces: Current-based collision detection and external safety inputs support safer cell design, although a complete application risk assessment remains essential.

Precision Automation and Vision Applications

UFACTORY positions the 850 for welding, screwdriving, robot vision, industrial production and camera-motion applications such as Glambot systems. Its combination of an 850 mm reach, 5 kg payload and ±0.02 mm repeatability makes it particularly relevant when a task needs both a reasonably large working area and repeatable positioning.

The internal Gigabit Ethernet cable is especially useful for vision-based projects because it provides a physical Ethernet path from the robot base to the tool end. UFACTORY has published a vision-guided grasping example using the 850, a RealSense depth camera and its Gripper G2. Depending on the application, the robot can also use UFACTORY’s vacuum gripper, BIO Gripper G2 or six-axis force-torque sensor. Tool weight, workpiece weight and centre of mass must always remain within the robot’s payload requirements and be configured correctly in the controller.

Programming, Integration and Safety

UFACTORY Studio runs inside the controller and is accessed through a web browser. It provides live control and Blockly-style drag-and-drop programming, allowing basic sequences to be created without conventional coding. More advanced integrations can use UFACTORY’s open-source Python and C++ SDKs or its ROS and ROS 2 packages.

The AC controller is intended for ordinary mains-powered installations, while the lighter DC controller accepts a 48–72 V DC supply for integration with mobile platforms. Controller and tool I/O can connect sensors, PLCs, relays and compatible end effectors, while the internal Ethernet cable supports suitable tool-mounted vision equipment. The robot includes collision detection based on differences between predicted and measured joint current.

How the 850 Differs from Other UFACTORY Cobots

Within UFACTORY’s current range, the 850 is the long-reach, high-repeatability choice. It matches the xArm 6’s six axes and 5 kg payload, but increases reach from 700 to 850 mm and reduces the stated repeatability tolerance from ±0.1 to ±0.02 mm. The trade-off is size and weight: the 850 weighs 20 kg, compared with 12.5 kg for the xArm 6. The xArm 5 offers five axes and a 3 kg payload, while the seven-axis xArm 7 provides greater positioning flexibility with a 3.5 kg payload. Lite 6 is substantially smaller and lighter, with a 440 mm reach, 0.6 kg payload, ±0.5 mm repeatability and an integrated controller. In short, Lite 6 suits compact tabletop work, the xArm family balances portability and capability, and the 850 prioritises reach and repeatable industrial motion.
