What Is the JAKA A Series

The JAKA A Series is a collaborative robot family designed for practical industrial automation rather than a single niche task. JAKA positions it as a “Standard Robot Model,” separate from its high-performance, perception-enhanced, and mini lightweight cobot ranges. The series currently includes three models: JAKA A5, JAKA A12, and JAKA A20. These models give users a choice between a compact 5 kg payload arm, a mid-range 12 kg option, and a heavier 20 kg option with a longer 1780 mm reach. The main idea is straightforward: give manufacturers a flexible cobot range that can be used across common production tasks without needing a highly specialized robot.

Applications and Benefits

The A Series is best understood as a general-purpose industrial cobot range. The A5 is the lighter model, useful for tasks where reach and precision matter but the payload is modest. The A12 gives a stronger middle option, with 12 kg payload and 1425 mm reach. The A20 is the heavy-duty member of the group, with a 20 kg payload and 1780 mm reach, making it more suitable for larger parts, heavier handling, and palletizing-style setups. JAKA describes the A Series as suitable for industrial scenarios, with a focus on operational efficiency and stronger adaptability. It is especially relevant for users looking at machine tending, loading and unloading, screwdriving, handling, welding, and palletizing.

A major benefit is that the series keeps the same basic collaborative robot style across the range: 6-axis movement, graphical programming, drag-and-drop programming, external cabinet control, and any-angle installation. This makes the series easier to compare and scale across different production tasks. JAKA also highlights productivity benefits such as improved cycle time, stronger scenario adaptability, and protected end joints for tougher end-of-arm working conditions.

How the A Series Differs from Other JAKA Cobot Series

The key difference is positioning. JAKA places the A Series under its Standard Robot Model category. By comparison, JAKA groups the Zu and Pro lines under High-Performance, the S and AL lines under Perception-Enhanced, and the Mini range under Mini Lightweight. So the A Series should not be described as JAKA’s most rugged line, most perception-focused line, or smallest line. It is better described as the standard, practical, general industrial cobot range.

Compared with the Pro Series, the A Series is not the main choice if the buyer specifically needs full-body IP68 protection, because JAKA highlights IP68 environmental adaptability for the Pro line. Compared with the S Series, the A Series is not the perception/force-control-focused line, because JAKA describes the S12 as having an integrated built-in force sensor for multi-dimensional force perception. Compared with the AL Series, the A Series does not focus on integrated vision; JAKA describes the A12L as combining a collaborative robot with intelligent vision. Compared with the Mini Series, the A Series is much more industrial-payload focused, while MiniCobo is positioned around lightweight deployment with 1 kg payload and 580 mm reach.
