What Is the DOBOT CRS Series
The DOBOT CRS Series is a family of collaborative robot arms built around Dobot’s SafeSkin safety technology. In simple terms, these cobots are designed to work in environments where people may be nearby, while still helping automate repetitive industrial tasks. The current global Dobot CRS lineup focuses on three AS models: CR3AS, CR5AS, and CR10AS.
The series starts with the lightweight CR3AS, which is suited to tighter spaces and lighter handling jobs. The CR5AS sits in the middle as a general-purpose 5 kg cobot, while the CR10AS offers the largest reach and payload in this group. That makes the CRS Series useful when you want a safety-focused cobot family, but you do not need the very heavy payload or more advanced force-control features found in some of Dobot’s other cobot lines.
Applications and Benefits
The DOBOT CRS Series is best understood as a practical light-to-medium automation family. It can be used for loading and unloading, assembly, bin picking, gluing, screwdriving, transporting, quality inspection, polishing, and similar repetitive tasks. The 3 kg and 5 kg models are better for lighter parts, compact workstations, lab setups, electronics, small assembly, and inspection support. The 10 kg model is more suitable when extra reach and payload are needed, such as larger handling jobs or wider-radius workcells.
The biggest benefit is the combination of a familiar 6-axis cobot arm with Dobot’s SafeSkin system. SafeSkin adds pre-collision sensing, helping the robot detect nearby human bodies, metals, liquids, and other conductive objects before contact. That does not remove the need for proper safety assessment, guarding decisions, or risk analysis, but it does make the series especially relevant for human-robot collaboration and shared production environments.
For users comparing cobots, the CRS Series is a good choice when safety-focused collaboration is more important than maximum payload, IP68 protection, or built-in force-control capability.
CRS Series Model Comparison
Model: CR3AS
Payload: 3 kg | Working Radius: 620 mm | Max. Reach: 795 mm | Robot Weight: 16.5 kg | Repeatability: ±0.02 mm | IP Rating: IP54
Best suited for: Light handling, compact workstations, small assembly, quality inspection, screwdriving, gluing, and tight-space collaborative setups.
Model: CR5AS
Payload: 5 kg | Working Radius: 900 mm | Max. Reach: 1096 mm | Robot Weight: 25 kg | Repeatability: ±0.02 mm | IP Rating: IP54
Best suited for: General-purpose light industrial automation, assembly, loading and unloading, bin picking, gluing, quality inspection, and flexible production tasks.
Model: CR10AS
Payload: 10 kg | Working Radius: 1300 mm | Max. Reach: 1525 mm | Robot Weight: 40 kg | Repeatability: ±0.03 mm | IP Rating: IP54
Best suited for: Wider workspaces, medium-payload handling, transporting, larger assembly tasks, polishing support, and applications needing more reach than the CR3AS or CR5AS.
Difference Between DOBOT CRS and Other DOBOT Cobot Series
The CRS Series is the safety-focused SafeSkin cobot family in Dobot’s lineup. Compared with the standard CRA Series, the CRS Series is narrower and more focused, with current AS models covering 3 kg, 5 kg, and 10 kg payloads. The CRA Series is broader, covering many more payload classes and including higher-payload models.
Compared with the CRAF Series, the CRS Series is not mainly about built-in force control. CRAF is better suited when force sensing is central to the task, such as more sensitive contact-based work. Compared with the CRA-IP68 Series, the CRS Series is not the rugged waterproof/dustproof option; CRA-IP68 is the better fit for harsher environments where protection rating matters more.
Compared with the Nova Series, the CRS Series is more industrial. Nova is more commercial/service-facing, with smaller 2 kg and 5 kg payload options and a friendlier look for retail, restaurants, physiotherapy, and similar spaces. Compared with the CR 30H, the CRS Series is much lighter-duty; CR 30H is Dobot’s high-payload, high-speed 30 kg cobot option for more demanding industrial handling and palletising tasks.
So, in one line: choose CRS when you want a compact industrial cobot with SafeSkin-focused human-robot collaboration.
