Applications
Schneider Electric's Lexium Cobots are designed to handle a wide range of industrial tasks, particularly those that are repetitive, physically demanding, or require consistent movements. They can be used in industries such as automotive, electronics, consumer packaged goods, and metalworking.
Some common applications include pick-and-place, machine loading and unloading, assembly, packaging, palletizing, dispensing, and inspection. The cobots can also support tasks such as screwdriving, soldering, polishing, and painting when equipped with suitable tools and properly configured for the application.
With five models offering payload capacities from 3 to 18 kg, the series can support different levels of handling requirements. Smaller models can be used for lighter components and compact workspaces, while the higher-payload models can handle heavier objects and equipment within their operating limits.
The Lexium Cobots are also designed to work alongside human operators, taking over repetitive tasks while workers focus on activities requiring judgement, flexibility, and problem-solving.
What Makes These Cobots Special?
One of the main strengths of the Lexium Cobot series is its combination of easy programming, flexible deployment, and integration with industrial automation systems.
The cobots support hand-guided teaching, allowing operators to physically move the robot arm to demonstrate positions or movements. They can also be programmed using Schneider Electric's EcoStruxure Cobot Expert software, which offers a graphical programming interface. This makes it easier to modify robot tasks without writing complex programs from scratch.
Another important feature is their integration with Schneider Electric's wider automation ecosystem. The Lexium Cobots can operate with dedicated controllers or be incorporated into larger machine automation solutions. Schneider Electric also supports integration with EcoStruxure Machine Expert and Machine Expert Twin for applicable machine-control and simulation workflows.
Safety is another important part of their design. The series incorporates collaborative safety functions and motion monitoring to support operation near people, subject to appropriate risk assessment and safety measures.
Together, these features make the Lexium Cobots useful for manufacturers looking for flexible robotic automation that can adapt to changing production needs.
Comparing the Lexium Cobot Models
Schneider Electric offers five Lexium Cobot models, each designed around a different combination of payload, reach, and physical size. An interesting characteristic of the lineup is that the higher-payload models do not necessarily have longer reaches. For example, the 12 kg model has the longest reach in the series, while the 18 kg model offers greater lifting capacity with a shorter reach.
The following comparison uses specifications from Schneider Electric's hardware guide (EIO0000004783.03). The suggested applications are practical examples based on the robots' specifications, rather than manufacturer-defined restrictions.
Model: Lexium Cobot RL03 (LXMRL03S0000)
Payload: 3 kg | Reach: 626 mm | Robot Weight: Approx. 13 kg | Repeatability: ±0.02 mm
Best suited for: Lightweight pick-and-place, small-part assembly, inspection, and compact workstations.
Model: Lexium Cobot RL05 (LXMRL05S0000)
Payload: 5 kg | Reach: 954 mm | Robot Weight: 22.6 kg | Repeatability: ±0.02 mm
Best suited for: Light assembly, machine tending, packaging, and applications that benefit from a longer reach than the RL03.
Model: Lexium Cobot RL07 (LXMRL07S0000)
Payload: 7 kg | Reach: 819 mm | Robot Weight: 22.7 kg | Repeatability: ±0.02 mm
Best suited for: Material handling, loading and unloading, assembly, and handling moderately heavier components within a relatively compact working area.
Model: Lexium Cobot RL12 (LXMRL12S0000)
Payload: 12 kg | Reach: 1,328 mm | Robot Weight: 42.5 kg | Repeatability: ±0.03 mm
Best suited for: Extended-reach handling, machine tending, palletizing, and applications requiring a combination of substantial reach and payload.
Model: Lexium Cobot RL18 (LXMRL18S0000)
Payload: 18 kg | Reach: 1,073 mm | Robot Weight: 35.8 kg | Repeatability: ±0.03 mm
Best suited for: Heavier material handling, loading and unloading, and industrial operations requiring the highest payload capacity in the Lexium Cobot series.
