Top 5+ Qualities (by addoobot)

What we find to be the top qualities of the SIASUN GCR Welding Cobots:

  • Purpose-Built for Welding: The W models come standard with dedicated welding software rather than requiring the standard GCR platform to be configured from scratch.
  • Multiple Welding Processes: Supports functions including spot, corner, oscillation/weaving, reciprocating, overlay/cladding and multi-layer/multi-pass welding.
  • Easy Welding Programming: Graphical/zero-code programming and direct drag teaching help operators create welding trajectories without relying solely on conventional robot programming.
  • Precision Across Three Sizes: The three models offer repeatability of ±0.02 or ±0.03 mm with reaches from 618 to 1300 mm.
  • Vision-Based Weld Tracking: Compatibility with laser-vision weld-seam tracking for automatic tracking and correction.
  • Expandable With External Axes: An optional external-axis package can extend robot motion or reposition the workpiece and can work independently or in coordination with the cobot.
  • Welding-Machine Integration: Multiple communication interfaces are designed to support compatibility with mainstream welding-machine brands.
  • Flexible Installation: All three W robots support installation in any direction, providing more freedom when designing a welding cell.

Built Around the Welding Process

These are welding-oriented versions of SIASUN DUCO’s GCR collaborative robots. Their main difference is the welding process package, which combines robot programming with welding-machine configuration, process parameters, vision settings, arc start and end, weave patterns, arc tracking, and multi-layer or multi-pass routines.

The graphical interface is intended to reduce the amount of traditional robot coding required. Paths can also be taught by physically guiding the arm. There is also optional torque-sensor and joystick teaching modules that attach near the end effector, giving operators two additional ways to position the torch and record points.

The platform supports GMAW, GTAW and laser beam welding, but the exact capabilities of a completed installation depend on the welding power source, torch, sensors, fixtures and software options selected.

Comparing the Five Welding Models

Model: GCR3-618-W
Payload: 3 kg | Reach: 618 mm | Robot Weight: 13 kg | Repeatability: ±0.02 mm
Best suited for: Compact cells, smaller components and light torch packages where 618 mm of reach is sufficient.

Model: GCR5-910-W
Payload: 5 kg | Reach: 917 mm | Robot Weight: 22 kg | Repeatability: ±0.02 mm
Best suited for: General light welding that needs more reach and tooling capacity than the GCR3.

Model: GCR10-1300-W
Payload: 10 kg | Reach: 1,300 mm | Robot Weight: 37.8 kg | Repeatability: ±0.03 mm
Best suited for: Larger workpieces, longer seams and installations needing both extended reach and greater tooling capacity.

How This Range Differs from Other SIASUN Cobots

The standard GCR Series is SIASUN’s general-purpose cobot range. It covers a broader selection of payloads and reaches and can be configured for handling, assembly, inspection, dispensing, polishing and other automation tasks. The welding models concentrate on the software, teaching tools, power-source interfaces, sensing functions and external-axis controls needed for welding.

The Explosion-Proof Series serves a different purpose. Those models are designed around certified protection for specified hazardous atmospheres. A GCR-W welding model should not be treated as explosion-proof simply because it is intended for welding. SIASUN also offers task-focused palletizing workstations and mobile cobot systems, which package the robot around stacking or mobile material-handling workflows instead.
